Cabletron Beats Forecasts

Cabletron Systems Inc. reported an operating profit of $6.95 million, or 4 cents a share, versus a loss of $20.8 million, or 12 cents, a year ago, beating analyst expectations of a 4-cent profit. The results exclude costs of a reorganization under which Cabletron will split into four companies. Revenue fell 33% to $248.9 million, reflecting the sale of some units. Revenue from continuing operations rose 35% to $265.3 million. Cabletron shares dropped $1.88 to close at $12 on the New York Stock Exchange before the earnings were released.
