A Fillmore man who was stabbed last month while sitting in his car on an Oxnard street, has died, and authorities said they are still searching for the assailant.
Ricardo Rangel, 57, was pronounced dead about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, said Craig Stevens, chief deputy medical examiner for the Ventura County coroner’s office.
Rangel suffered multiple stab wounds in the Nov. 25 attack, which occurred about 11:45 p.m. in the 600 block of South Oxnard Boulevard.
“We have no suspect information and no idea what the motive was,” said Oxnard Police Sgt. Jim Seitz. “Apparently it was not uncommon for him to frequent the downtown area at night.”
Rangel’s death is the 11th homicide in Oxnard this year and the second in less than two weeks.
Seitz said no witnesses have come forward, although Rangel was stabbed on a well-traveled section of Oxnard Boulevard near 6th Street on a Saturday night.
Because of the severity of Rangel’s injuries, investigators have handled the case as a homicide since it occurred, Seitz said.
