Stanley M. Sears; Longtime Vons Employee

Stanley M. Sears, a retired seafood specialist for Vons, died on Tuesday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard after a brief battle with leukemia. He was 62.
He was born April 27, 1938, in Aurora, Ill., and had been a resident of Ventura County for the last 23 years.
For 14 years, Sears worked for Vons, expanding the chain’s seafood departments, before retiring in February.
Sears was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Ventura and the River Ridge Senior Men’s Golf Club.
He enjoyed cooking, golfing, fishing and camping.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Betty, and a son, Jim, both of Ventura; and a sister, Ruth Hiersemann of Inglewood. He was preceded in death by his brother, 1st Lt. James Sears.
Services are scheduled at 11 a.m. today at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dan Steven officiating. Burial will follow at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
