Husband Kills Wife, Another Man, Then Self
LAKE ARROWHEAD — An estranged couple and a man were found dead in what appeared to be a murder-suicide in the San Bernardino Mountains community of Cedar Pines Park, authorities said Monday.
The couple, who had separated, were both employees of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the department said in a press release.
San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies responding to neighbors’ reports of shots fired found the bodies in different rooms of the house Sunday night.
The Orange County statement said Dieter Zamaitat went to the home and confronted his estranged wife, Karin Zamaitat, shot her and a man identified as Art Statt, 60, and then shot himself.
Dieter Zamaitat, 63, was a vocational instructor at the James Musik Branch Jail in Irvine. Karin Zamaitat, 54, worked as a data entry technician for the department’s warrants section.
Karin Zamaitat’s body was in a downstairs bedroom, authorities said. Her husband’s body was in a hallway. Statt’s body was found in the living room.
All three were residents of Cedar Pines Park, west of Lake Arrowhead.
