Enforma to Pay $10 Million to Settle Charges
- Share via
The marketers of a weight-loss system that claimed to block fat and burn calories without exercise agreed to repay $10 million to customers to settle government charges that they used deceptive advertising. The settlement is the largest of its kind. The Federal Trade Commission said Enforma Natural Products, which advertises and sells “The Enforma System,” used false claims about scientific testing to promote its product. The complaint names the Encino company; its president, Andrew Grey; and Fred Zinos, a former vice president. The company promoted the system primarily with 30-minute infomercials featuring former baseball player Steve Garvey. They also used the Internet to sell the product, which cost about $70 for a two-month supply of capsules. Enforma is also prohibited from making deceptive claims about its products or any scientific research. By settling the charges, the company doesn’t admit having broken any law.
