Columbine Tapes to Be Made Public
Videotapes of the shooting at Columbine High School near Denver will be made public by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in Golden, Colo., a decision that outraged families of the victims. Officials announced the move after the sheriff’s office handed over the tapes to a lawyer for six of the victims’ families, one day after a judge ordered him to do so. The families want the videotapes to support their lawsuit that alleges the sheriff mishandled the response to the shootings in which the two assailants, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, killed 12 students and a teacher before killing themselves on April 20, 1999.
