Servite Beats Eagles to Clinch Serra League Golf Title

Zack Zehnder’s par putt on the ninth hole gave top-ranked Servite a 184-185 victory over Santa Margarita in a Serra League boys’ golf match Thursday at Los Coyotes Country Club.

Servite (12-2) clinched the league title with a record of 6-0. Santa Margarita is 12-2, 4-2.

Zehnder’s five-foot putt followed a birdie by Santa Margarita’s Steve Conway on the par-five ninth, which brought the Eagles within one stroke.

Nico Bollini of Servite was medalist with a three-under-par 32. Conway took second with a 35.

In Empire League softball:

Kennedy 3, Katella 2--Breanna Sabol had two hits, a stolen base, an RBI and a run to lead the Fighting Irish (14-4, 3-3) at Kennedy.

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 2, Fullerton 0--Shortstop Michelle Miller had two hits and an RBI and catcher Dawn Ramynke homered for the host Raiders (18-5, 4-0). Joanna Gray took the loss for Fullerton (8-8-1, 1-2).

Sunny Hills 5, La Habra 0--Shannon Deutschman allowed three hits and struck out six for the visiting Lancers (9-8, 2-1). La Habra is 6-8, 0-3.

Troy 11, Buena Park 0--Emily Hively pitched a shutout with 10 strikeouts for visiting Troy (14-6, 2-2), which took advantage of nine errors to score six unearned runs.

In the Orange League:

Savanna 3, Anaheim 1--Lauren Condon pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts for host Savanna (11-7, 2-3).

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 5, Cerritos Valley Christian 1--Laura Miklos (10-2) allowed one hit in six innings for the host Lancers (18-4-2, 5-1). Alicia Pharris had three hits and three RBIs.

In the Woodbridge tournament:

No. 9 Aliso Niguel 5, Woodbridge 2--The Wolverines, who lost to Woodbridge last week in a Sea View League game, scored four runs in the first inning. Erin Wallace had three hits and Kalena Peterson had two RBIs as Aliso Niguel reached the semifinals.

Santa Margarita 5, No. 5 Pacifica 0--Nicole Bartholemew pitched a two-hitter as Santa Margarita (13-7-1) advanced to the championship bracket from a pool that also included No. 3 Fountain Valley. The Eagles then lost to Corona in the first round, 2-1, in 12 innings.

No. 5 Pacifica 2, Irvine 1--Jessica Marical pitched a no-hitter, and the Mariners scored in the top of the seventh to beat the Vaqueros in the bracket for second-place teams.

In Empire League boys’ tennis:

Cypress 17 1/2, Kennedy 3 1/2--Navin Kumar won in singles, 6-1, and teamed with Sonny Lim to win in doubles, 6-0, for the host Centurions (9-13, 6-3).

In the Freeway League:

No. 7 Troy 17, La Habra 1--Cody Long and Edward Mendoza teamed to sweep in doubles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for the host Warriors (18-0, 6-0). Edwin Mendoza and Ryan Young also swept in doubles, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0.

In Empire League boys’ track:

Katella 93, Loara 42--Katella sophomore Song Yang cleared 14 feet 7 inches in the pole vault and teammate David Morris cleared 14-4 1/2 to lead the Knights (5-0 in league) at Loara.

Yang’s mark, the third-best in the county this season was 16 inches more than his previous personal best. Morris finished second, improving on his previous personal best of 13-0.

Junior Steve Douglas won the 100 (10.9) and the 200 meters (22.7) for Loara (1-4).

Cypress 78, Kennedy 44--Richard Cradit won the 100 (11.2) and the 200 (22.5) to lift the Centurions at Kennedy.

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 82, Fullerton 45--Junior Nick McIver was a double winner for host Sonora (3-3, 3-1), taking the 100 meters (11.1) and the 300 hurdles (46.4).

Sunny Hills 83, La Habra 43--Daniel Perez won the 200 (23.3), 110 hurdles (15.7) and 300 hurdles (40.5) for host Sunny Hills (3-1).

In Empire League girls’ track:

Katella 101, Loara 34--Katella sophomore Elisa Liana cleared 10-9 in the pole vault, the third-best mark in the county this season. Junior Cortney Stafford won the 100 meters (13.3), high jump (4-10) and triple jump (37-8) for the Knights.

La Habra 66, Sunny Hills 61--Camille Goode took first place in the 100 (13.0) and the 200 meters (28.5) for host Sunny Hills (2-2).
