Bolsa Grande Rallies to Beat La Quinta
David Nguyen, last season’s league most valuable player, had 33 kills to help Bolsa Grande to a five-game victory over La Quinta in a Garden Grove League boys’ volleyball match Friday.
After losing the first game, 9-15, Bolsa Grande won the next two, 15-13, 15-8. La Quinta won the fourth game, 15-9. Bolsa Grande (11-2, 6-2) regrouped to win the fifth game, 16-14.
Setter Ken Do had 43 assists for host La Quinta (3-10, 1-8).
In another Garden Grove match:
Santiago 3, Los Amigos 2--Kennedy Tali had a match-high 27 kills and Jose Rivera had 11 for the Cavaliers (7-8, 4-5), who won, 11-15, 15-13, 15-12, 13-15, 15-9.
Mien Tran had 14 kills for Los Amigos.
In the Empire League:
Cypress 3, Loara 1--Brian Morris had 14 kills and Justin Lee had 20 blocks to lead Cypress (12-0, 6-0) to a 13-15, 15-12, 15-3, 15-10 victory.
El Dorado 3, Kennedy 1--The visiting Golden Hawks (8-3, 5-2) won, 15-13, 9-15, 15-4, 15-4. Nick Lehnert had 23 kills for El Dorado.
Ocean View 3, Saddleback 0--Jason Roth had 14 kills and Josh Albers had 12 for Ocean View (7-4, 7-2), which won, 15-7, 15-13, 15-13.
In the Orange League:
Valencia 3, Brea Olinda 1--Scott Mazurier had 12 kills and Dan Bonkowski had six blocks for Valencia (12-1, 5-0) in the 15-4, 15-4, 11-15, 15-7 victory.
Western 3, Savanna 0--Onesimo Vera had a match-high 10 kills for the Pioneers (6-6, 2-3), who won, 15-1, 15-6, 15-6.
In the Sea View League:
No. 10 Woodbridge 3, Laguna Hills 0--Scott Sebek had 10 kills, Jordan Winder had eight kills and nine digs and Jason Liljestrom had 32 assists for visiting Woodbridge in a 15-0, 15-5, 15-13 victory.
