Five Cypress Soccer Standouts Sign

Kristen Holstrom, a freshman defender who was a first-team all-Orange Empire Conference selection last season, was one of five Cypress College players to announce their college plans for the fall.

Holstrom, a graduate of Esperanza High who helped Cypress to a 27-0 record last season, will attend Jacksonville.

Kristie McMahan (Marina High) and Brooke Zaffina, each a second-team all-conference pick, will attend Cal State Dominguez Hills. Jen Nagle (Brethren Christian) will attend William Woods in Fulton, Mo., and Lisa Hernen has selected Cal Poly Pomona.

BASEBALL

Matt Parrish, a left fielder at Esperanza and the son of former major league catcher Lance Parrish, has signed with Biola, Eagle baseball Coach John Verhoeven announced.

WATER POLO

Brendon Hansen, who helped Newport Harbor to the Southern Section Division I semifinals, will play water polo at Stanford, Sailor Coach Brian Kreutzkamp said Thursday.

RACQUETBALL

Los Caballeros Racquet and Sports Club in Fountain Valley will host a professional racquetball exhibition beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday.

John Ellis, the No. 3 player in the world, will play Jason Maninno, ranked No. 4 and the current U.S. Open champion. Limited seating is available at $10.
