San Clemente came from behind to win its fourth match in a row and set up a showdown for the South Coast League boys’ volleyball lead with a 13-15, 15-6, 15-13, 15-13 victory Thursday at Capistrano Valley.
The No. 7 Tritons (7-3, 5-1) got 26 kills from Gray Garrett and 20 from Nick Gardener. Brian George, back in form after having been hampered by sore knees, had 11.
San Clemente will play El Toro, the only league team to beat the Tritons, on April 25.
Paul Jonson had 31 kills for the Cougars (5-5, 3-3).
After an error-filled opening game, the Tritons came back to easily win the second. They fell behind, 8-3, in the third game before scoring six of seven points to take control.
Scott Campbell’s service ace pulled the Cougars to within 14-13 in the fourth, but Spencer Bemus drilled a sideout kill and Garrett followed with another to put the match away.
