Produce Picker Held in Stabbing of Man
A 28-year-old Oxnard produce picker has been arrested in the stabbing of a co-worker Saturday in a field in which they worked, authorities said.
Arturo Quintero is being held on suspicion of attempted murder after Octavio Porfirio Tellez, 24, was injured about 3:30 p.m., said Oxnard Police Sgt. Lee Wilcox.
Tellez, also of Oxnard, was stabbed once in the chest while picking produce off Etting Road near Highway 1, Wilcox said. He was in critical condition Sunday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard.
Although no witnesses were immediately found, officers questioned Quintero, whom they described as an acquaintance of Tellez.
Detectives were unclear about what may have motivated the incident.
