Ticker Talk: Janus Capital Corp. confirmed Thursday that the Securities and Exchange Commission has inquired about the mutual fund company’s new policy of putting checks earmarked for closed funds into money-market accounts. Under the policy, money sent by investors seeking to participate in a fund that has been closed is placed into a money-market account. The company then notifies the person and asks if they want the money returned or invested in another Janus product. Previously, Janus returned the money by mail. Fidelity Investments, the biggest U.S. mutual fund company, has a similar policy, but declined to say whether the SEC has questioned it.
