Army Base Targeted in Bomb Attack
A small bomb exploded at a British army base in Northern Ireland six days before Queen Elizabeth II is to visit Belfast, the provincial capital. No one was hurt in the early morning blast at the perimeter of the Ebrington Barracks in the city of Londonderry. It was the second bomb attack on an army base in the British province in six weeks. Police in the city also went on high alert after a bag containing detonators and timers was found in a Roman Catholic area hours after the blast at the base, which senior officers said was caused by a 5-pound bomb. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
