Speed Limits

Re “Speed Limits Inch Upward in Many Cities,” Sept. 12: Indiscriminate taking and loss of life are the products of too much speed on our streets and highways, yet a California regulation permits this bloodletting to continue unabated. If ever there was an opportunity to “do something” about the highway killings and maimings, it would be to amend these regulations.
Rigorous upholding of posted limits is a lifesaving device! If the citizenry is truly serious about saving lives, speeds must be held to posted limits, not to what “85% of the motorists” think. I’d feel a lot better about “do-something” legislation on gun control if arguments for lifesaving were consistent.
