The City Council recently signed off on an application seeking $788,000 in state grant money to improve Delhi Park, and $68,950 in state grant money for a new literacy program.
If approved, the city will combine the money with federal funds to rebuild Delhi Park. The city also hopes to host a book festival to provide free books to young, at-risk children who live in the Empowerment Zone, a federal grant of as much as $100 million over 10 years that would help improve the quality of life in impoverished communities.
