A Seasoned Veteran Who Has This Game in the Bag
- Share via
Who: Roxie Britton, 47, of Whittier, second-grade teacher in Norwalk.
Where: Dodger Stadium, just before Saturday night’s Dodgers-Mets game. (Dodgers lost, 6-2.)
Her bag: A Dodger duffel bag from the stadium’s Bag Day. “It was several years ago, because Mike Piazza is on the side.”
What’s inside:
* A Dodgers jacket she’s had for 12 years.
* Binoculars, to see the field from the $8 unreserved seats in the top deck. (She prefers an aisle seat.)
* A bag of unshelled peanuts, to save paying $3 to the peanut man.
* A bottle of water.
* A seat cushion, covered with a pillowcase from home, for those hard stadium seats.
Why she came: “My father used to bring me to 50-cent Ladies Night when I was 7 or 8 years old and we’d sit in the bleachers.” Now she and two friends come to the ballpark 10 to 15 times a year, even though she says graciously that this year’s team is “disappointing.”
What she misses most about the team: 1988 (their last World Series win).
