Chelsea Trotter, The Times Orange County girls’ basketball player of the year as a junior, has made an oral commitment to attend Stanford. Trotter, a 6-3 senior post player, averaged 19.6 points and 10.8 rebounds for Brea Olinda, which won the Division II state title and its 11th consecutive Southern Section title. Trotter said she is nearly recovered from the torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee, which kept her out of the state title game last season. She tore the ACL in her left knee as a freshman.

Andy Chong and Yeping Tang, representing the United States, won their mixed doubles quarterfinal at the U.S. Open Badminton Championships in Orange, defeating Canada’s Bryan Moody and Denyse Julien, 15-11, 15-10. Chong and Tang will play Denmark’s Michael Lamp and Pernille Harder in today’s semifinals.
