VALLEY / VENTURA COUNTY SPORTS : SOUTHERN SECTION FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Vossmeyer Achieves Passing Grade, 35-21
The short list of top quarterbacks just got a little longer.
Thursday night, Scott Vossmeyer of Crescenta Valley High added his name to the list of Casey Clausen, Zac Wasserman, Brandon Hance and Matt Cassel at the head of the region’s senior class.
Vossmeyer completed 13 of 16 passes for 147 yards and three touchdowns for the Falcons in a 35-21 victory over Thousand Oaks in a nonleague season opener at Glendale High. Two of his three incompletions were dropped.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Vossmeyer said he doesn’t mind being underrated after missing the final seven games of his junior season with a broken ankle.
“It’s fun surprising people,†said Vossmeyer, who also scored on a one-yard run.
Steve Carballo caught six passes for 113 yards, including a diving, one-handed catch in the end zone for a 31-yard touchdown. He also had a three-yard scoring run.
Clint Wilson rushed for 120 yards in 14 carries for Thousand Oaks, which trailed 35-0 in the fourth quarter.
