The Veterans of Foreign Wars will be hosting a recognition ceremony Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at the Mission Viejo Elks Lodge.
Awards will be presented to the Firefighter of the Year and the Law Enforcement Person of the Year. Veteran Rod McLean also will be honored for his recovery mission during the Vietnam War, when he retrieved the remains of a soldier missing in action.
World War II veterans also will receive Ruptured Duck Service Pins, replacing lost pins earned for service in World War II. Two teachers will be honored as well as the winners of the youth essay contest. The ceremony is open to the public. The Mission Viejo Elks Lodge is at 25092 Marguerite Parkway.
