Bill Musselman, a Portland assistant coach, was in serious condition Saturday after suffering a possible stroke on Thursday.

“He is in stable condition and we’re just waiting to see,†said Phyllis Riggs, a nursing supervisor at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Ore.

Musselman, 59, collapsed after Thursday night’s exhibition game against Phoenix, Leonard Greene, a team spokesman, said. Musselman wasn’t in the arena when he collapsed, Greene said.

Musselman, who joined the Trail Blazers in 1997, took over the head coaching job for the game after Mike Dunleavy was ejected.

Also, the Trail Blazers learned that forward Brian Grant has not recovered from off-season surgery on his left knee as quickly as hoped and listed him as doubtful for Tuesday’s opener and Wednesday’s game against the Clippers.

Minnesota reserve forward Andrae Patterson is expected to be out three to four weeks after having surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right knee, an injury suffered in practice Thursday. He is Minnesota’s third injured forward, joining Joe Smith (broken foot) and Tom Hammonds (sore heels).
