It was a day of milestones for schools and coaches. Texas A&M; won its 600th game in school history and became the 17th Division I-A school to reach the mark after beating Oklahoma State, 21-3. Also Saturday, Wittenberg became the first school below Division I to win 600 games with a 14-0 victory against Ohio Wesleyan. Texas A&M;’s victory also gave Coach R.C. Slocum his 100th career victory. Steve Spurrier, who coached previously at Duke, won his 100th game as Florida’s coach when his No. 5 Gators defeated No. 10 Georgia, 30-14. But outdoing them both was Brigham Young’s LaVell Edwards, who earned his 250th career victory as the No. 16 Cougars defeated Air Force, 27-20.

Cincinnati’s 52-42 victory over Miami of Ohio was the highest scoring game between the two schools in 104 meetings, dating to 1888. . . . Davidson’s 31-12 victory against Hampton-Sydney ensured its first winning season in 41 years.
