College Unveils New 48-Computer Lab
A new “open access†lab, with 48 new computers, is now ready for Moorpark College students.
With the lab, the college’s computer science center now has a total of 120 computers.
“We’ve had computer labs before, but this is bigger, more refined and related to the computer classes next door,†said Jeff Erskine, network administrator for the college.
“They can come in from the classrooms and do their homework right here.â€
The estimated cost of the new lab is $200,000, said Ruth Hemming, vice president of college services.
The lab is part of the new Kavli Science Center, an $11.4-million building that includes life science laboratories, computer science and mathematics classrooms and the open lab.
The Kavli Science Center opened for students in August, and the computer lab was the final phase of the project, Erskine said.
The lab is on the first floor of the Kavli center, on the northeast side of the campus. The college will host an open house at the lab, from 1 to 2 p.m. today.
