Darker Side of History

I was on the Salzburg-Linz-Vienna food supply run on Aug. 19, 1946 when we halted at Melk, Austria. I climbed atop a boxcar and snapped a photo of the Benedictine Abbey. Times writer S. Irene Virbila (“Vintage Austria,” Sept. 19) does not mention that Melk was the site of a concentration camp in Austria. The Abbey overlooked it.
I can’t forget.
