Newbury Park 24, Royal 7--Newbury Park held the Highlanders to 15 yards rushing and forced four turnovers at Royal.
Marcus Crawford of Newbury Park rushed for 174 yards and a touchdown in 36 carries. Crawford had 120 yards in the first half, including a 19-yard touchdown run that gave the Panthers (2-2, 1-0) a 7-0 lead.
Cameron Merrill threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Will Svitek late in the second quarter to extend the Panthers’ lead to 14-0.
On the ensuing kickoff, Royal’s Doug Hartman fumbled, kicker Matt Butcher recovered and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown.
Royal (1-3, 0-1) scored on a three-yard run by Randy Plue with 1:58 left in the half.
