JUNIOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Ventura Coasts Past Canyons
Ventura College struck early and then coasted for a 45-24 victory over Canyons in a Western State Conference Northern Division football game Saturday night at Canyons.
The victory kept Ventura (8-1, 5-1 in division play), ranked No. 6 in the state, in a three-way tie for first place with Hancock and Moorpark in the division and maintained its hopes for a bowl berth.
Travis Rogers had 112 yards and a touchdown in 20 carries, giving him 1,255 yards and 16 touchdowns. Reserve Pheon Bright finished with 107 yards and a touchdown in 16 carries.
Canyons (6-3, 3-3) was top-ranked ranked in the conference against the run, giving up 91.1 yards per game, but allowed 281 to Ventura.
Ventura’s Glen Dudley completed 10 of 16 passes for 119 yards and three touchdowns. Marquis Johnson had three catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns.
The Cougars were led by quarterback Chris Kobe, who completed 22 of 43 passes for 275 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Mark Hamilton caught 10 passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
