Hines Horticulture Inc. Posts Loss of $2.4 Million for Third Quarter

Hines Horticulture Inc., an Irvine operator of commercial nurseries, said it lost $2.4 million, or 11 cents a share, for the third quarter, compared with a net loss of $4.4 million, or 20 cents a share, for the like 1998 period. Last year’s third quarter included an extraordinary loss of $3 million for early extinguishment of debt. Sales increased 24% to $45.5 million.
