Society Seeks Entries for Hero Dog Awards
LOS ANGELES — The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is looking for a few good dogs.
The SPCA local chapter is accepting nominations for its 17th Annual Hero Dog Awards, said spokeswoman Mary Brankovic.
“The award symbolizes the heroic acts performed by dogs to save and protect people,†Brankovic said. “Any California dog is eligible for this award, the highest honor bestowed on a companion animal.â€
Past winners include a police dog hit by a bullet intended for its partner; a poodle that alerted a sleeping family to a fire; and a Rottweiler that brought a portable phone to its owner, who called 911 while having a heart attack.
Nominations are due by June 30 and should be sent to: SPCA Hero Dog Nominations, 5026 W. Jefferson Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90016.
