Bardone Leads Decathlon in Championship

Orange Coast’s Ray Bardone leads the decathlon with 3,364 points after completing five events in the first day of the Southern California championship Tuesday at Santa Barbara.

In the women’s meet, Orange Coast’s Lianka Bunnik is 10th with 2,282 points. The competition concludes today.

In the Hancock baseball tournament:

Cypress 11, Hancock 8--Corey Sullivan had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs and Brandon Smith had two hits and two RBIs for Cypress (19-6-1).

In nonconference softball:

Citrus 4, Orange Coast 2--Citrus scored twice in the seventh against reliever Mary Perez.

Carrie Grimson set Orange Coast’s single-season record for stolen bases, with her 19th and 20th.

Mark McElroy was introduced as Saddleback College’s football coach Tuesday after being approved by the South Orange County Community College Board of Trustees.

McElroy played at Saddleback in 1979 and was coach for the last seven seasons at San Clemente High, where he compiled a 41-31-2 record.
