Litton Industries Inc. said its board named Harry Halamandaris chief operating officer and Chief Executive Michael Brown chairman.
Brown, 58, succeeds John Leonis, 65, who will retire March 31. Halamandaris, as COO, will run the day-to-day operations, said Litton, the eighth-largest U.S. defense contractor.
Halamandaris becomes the third new top executive at Litton in the last year. D. Michael Steuert was named chief financial officer last month, and Brown replaced Leonis as CEO in March 1998.
Halamandaris had been senior vice president of Litton’s Electronic Warfare Group and strategic business development since 1996.
Woodland Hills-based Litton is a top maker of naval destroyers and navigation equipment.
Its shares fell 25 cents to close at $57.94 on the New York Stock Exchange.
