Brush Fire Behind Homes Contained

A brush fire in a Newbury Park neighborhood burned 7 acres Tuesday afternoon and threatened 25 homes and the Stagecoach Inn Museum before being contained.

The fire, whose cause is still being investigated, began behind the homes and museum near Ventu Park Road and Ramona Drive. Thirty-five Ventura County and California Department of Forestry firefighters attacked the blaze on the ground and from a helicopter.

Streets in the area remained closed Tuesday evening except to residents.

Last week, fire blackened 600 acres in Los Padres National Forest northeast of Ojai. Costs to fight that four-day blaze, which was completely contained Friday, have already reached $750,000 but could climb to $1 million, officials said. Several small brush fires have erupted in Ventura County since fire season began June 1.
