A citywide crackdown on code violations, launched last month to clean up neighborhoods, will probably continue, city officials said Tuesday. Code enforcement officers have been sweeping residential areas for abandoned cars, illegally parked commercial vehicles and trash on private property. The city is also targeting illegal auto repair businesses being run out of homes. Residents are notified of violations by mail and given an opportunity to correct the problem.

The code enforcement officers will give an update of the number and nature of violations at an upcoming City Council meeting. The council recently decided to take a strong stand against code violations in residential areas in an effort to shape up messy, and possibly unhealthy, neighborhoods, said Mayor Constance Underhill.
