Offerman’s Homers Lead Red Sox, 14-1

Jose Offerman had the first grand slam and two-home run game of his career to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 14-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox Monday at Boston.

Offerman, who also had a career-high six runs batted in, came into the game with one homer this season and 23 in 3,845 career at-bats.

Bret Saberhagen (4-2) gave up six hits in seven innings in his second consecutive scoreless start since coming off the disabled list after suffering a cut foot at his New York home earlier this month.

The Red Sox have won five of their last six games and outscored the White Sox, 43-10, over the four-game series.

Cleveland 6, Kansas City 1--Charles Nagy (10-4) gave up five hits in seven innings and became the American League’s second 10-game winner and Richie Sexson hit a two-run homer to lead the Indians at Kansas City.

Toronto 3, Tampa Bay 2--Tony Batista hit a home run and Chris Carpenter came off the disabled list to pitch five innings at St. Petersburgh, Fla., and help the Blue Jays end a losing streak at three games. Carpenter (5-5) gave up seven hits and two runs.
