Barry Zwick, author of “Cape Town’s New Vibrance” (May 16), undoubtedly is a nice man. And people should be able to visit South Africa and do what they want. But there is something disturbing about frequenting only the areas and establishments built up during the era of oppression, while writing off the communities of black South Africans as “ugly inland slums with no tourist attractions.” This seems almost like economic apartheid. Travelers afraid to visit predominantly black regions might consider donating to groups working to eliminate the immoral disparities in opportunity in South Africa. Let’s all do that.
