Fullerton AAU Baseball Team Advances to Series Semifinals
The Fullerton Stingers advanced to the semifinals of the AAU 14-and-under baseball World Series, winning two games on Friday in Chickasha, Okla.
The Stingers will play the Placentia Mustangs in the semifinals this morning. The winner will play the San Diego Stars-Powder Springs, Ga., winner at 3 p.m. for the title.
The Stingers won their first game Friday, 24-6, over the Virginia Blasters from Norfolk. Chris Kraft hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and pitched three shutout innings for the victory. In the quarterfinals, the Stingers defeated the Dallas Titans, 20-4. Cole Garner went four for five.
BICYCLING
Pittsburgh’s Danny Chew won the Race Across America, crossing the finish line in Savannah, Ga., at 4:50 p.m. PDT Friday.
Chew, who also won the event in 1996, finished the 2938.09 miles in 8 days 7 hours 50 minutes, averaging 353 miles a day after leaving the starting point in Irvine last Thursday. Wolfgang Fasching of Austria was second, an 1 hour 7 minutes behind Chew.
