Marquand’s Goal Helps Mirage Advance to Final
University High’s Allyson Marquand scored in the 56th minute to give the Mission Viejo Mirage a 1-0 victory over the Milwaukee Kickers in the under-18 girls’ division of the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships Thursday in Orlando, Fla.
The victory advanced the Mirage to Sunday’s Kelly Cup final. The Mirage, which plays Tophat 99 Gold (Atlanta) today in its final round-robin game, will face the winner of the game between the Kickers and Northport/Cow Harbor (N.Y.) Piranha for the title.
Erin Misaki set up the goal, working her way up the left side before finding Marquand six yards in front of the net. Marquand, who will attend Stanford this fall, drilled a shot into the right corner.
On Tuesday, Lauren Orlandos (El Toro High) scored two goals to lead the Mirage to a 4-1 victory over the Texas Challenge.
* Jill Wilson of Sunny Hills High has committed to Trinity University. Wilson was a first-team All-Freeway League and second team All-Southern Section selection this year as a midfielder.
