Wide Receiver Finneran Signs 2-Year Contract With Eagles

Brian Finneran, a former standout at Santa Margarita High, signed a two-year contract Tuesday with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Finneran, 23, had 54 catches for 844 yards and eight touchdowns for the Barcelona Dragons in the NFL’s Europe League this spring.
Finneran, a wide receiver, was named the 1998 NCAA Division I-AA player of the year after leading Villanova to its first undefeated regular season.
* The South has made a roster change for the Orange County North-South all-star football game Friday night at Orange Coast College.
Huntington Beach’s Sam Lightbody, a 6-foot-9, 245-pound defensive end/defensive tackle; Edison running back Darin Pope (5-9, 170), and Trabuco Hills defensive back Chad Pieroni (6-0, 165) have been added to Woodbridge Coach Rick Gibson’s team.
They replace Brendon Rosen (Huntington Beach), Hardy Fatu (Santa Ana Valley) and Joe Gonzalez (Santiago), Gibson said.
BASEBALL
* Cal State Fullerton infielder Ryan Owens has signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks and been assigned to High Desert in the Class A California League. He is scheduled to join High Desert this week.
Owens, a junior who played third base and shortstop last season, led the Titans in home runs (23) and runs batted in (85).
BADMINTON
* The U.S. Junior National Badminton Championships begin today for the third year at the Orange County Badminton Club in Orange.
A number of local players are expected to compete for age-group championships against opponents from 16 states. The finals are Sunday. Admission and parking is free. Competition begins at 10 each morning.
