The city is evaluating rates at parking lots downtown. Councilman Shawn Boyd recently proposed free parking after 6 p.m. at lots on 8th and 10th streets. Boyd said the flat rate of $2 does not generate enough income for the city and should be abolished to boost business in the area. Boyd added that he favors retaining existing daytime flat rates, currently at $6 during the summer season and $4 during the off season. The City Council will decide on the fees at its July 26 meeting.
