De Rail the Trail, a group that lobbied against plans for a sea wall and other construction along a narrow stretch of beach, received an award from an environmental organization Tuesday for getting the City Council to vote against the project.
The May Rindge Award--named after a Malibu woman who fought for 25 years to keep a railroad from being developed over her property--is given to organizations dedicated to restoring California’s beaches and the natural environment. De Rail the Trail was launched in February by Beverly Hills-based Fund for the Environment.
