Myllykoski Sparks Royal’s Catch-22 Against Westlake
Royal High rallied from a 22-point deficit and defeated Westlake, 59-52, in a Marmonte League girls’ basketball game Wednesday night at Royal.
Mari Myllykoski scored 14 fourth-quarter points, including seven of eight free throws, and finished with 26 points for Royal (8-7, 3-2 in league play).
Royal trailed, 27-5, in the second quarter. The Highlanders took a took 51-50 lead on Myllykoski’s free throw with more than a minute to play and never trailed again.
Tawny Thorp scored 24 points for Westlake (6-11, 1-4).

North Hollywood 71, Reseda 56--Markia Derby scored 11 third-quarter points to help the Huskies pull away in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Reseda.
Derby finished with 23 points and Angelle Hill had 16 rebounds for North Hollywood (13-5, 3-0), ranked No. 8 in the region by The Times.
North Hollywood center Richelle Sherman missed the game because of flu.
Ig Herrera scored 14 points for Reseda (3-11, 1-2).
Grant 76, Poly 29--Alexis Weatherspoon had 18 points and 10 rebounds and the Lancers (11-7, 3-0) had three other players score in double figures in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Poly.
Sylmar 38, Van Nuys 27--Michelle Jiminez had 15 blocked shots, 12 rebounds and seven points, and Veronica Ramos had 17 points, 10 steals and 18 rebounds for Sylmar (5-8, 1-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Van Nuys (3-10, 1-2).
El Camino Real 68, Granada Hills 18--The host Conquistadores scored the first 16 points and cruised in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
Chrissy McClain had 10 points and 14 rebounds for El Camino Real (14-4, 3-0), ranked No. 10 in the region.
Simi Valley 41, Thousand Oaks 36--Elise Metcalf scored 15 points and No. 6-ranked Simi Valley outscored the Lancers, 14-2, in the fourth quarter of a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks (10-7, 2-3).
Teresa Cooper scored 12 points and Jennifer Sturdivant had six assists for Simi Valley (15-4, 4-1).
Agoura 59, Newbury Park 52--Betsy Novack had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Agoura (11-8, 1-4) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.
Jennifer Lacy scored her nine points in the fourth quarter.
