A Santa Clarita woman gave birth to four healthy baby girls Thursday, a quadruple feat greeted enthusiastically by friends preparing round-the-clock home care for the babies.

Kimberly Jacobsson, 31, delivered the quadruplets by caesarean section at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, where she was supervised by a doctor who specializes in high-risk pregnancies, said hospital spokeswoman Lisa Kort. Kimberly and her husband, Martin Jacobsson, also 31, have a 3-year-old son, Ethan.

The newborns--Sophia Lynn, Hope Elizabeth, Natalie Patricia and Emma Joanna--are all healthy and able to breathe on their own, Kort said. Sophia is the biggest at 4 pounds, 7 ounces; Natalie, who weighed 3 pounds, 5 ounces, is the tiniest.

“They’re very healthy,†Kort said. “This is basically the outcome they would’ve hoped for.â€

The couple can expect to be showered with support when they bring the tiny girls home. A Valencia Ford dealer has donated a van to the family for two years, while two local churches are planning volunteer shifts to provide meals and child care for at least six months.

“They will have at least two people there every minute to help care for the babies,†said Stephanie Chabot, a family friend.

Chabot said supporters are planning a Jan. 23 fund-raiser--a rummage sale aimed at raising money to buy a custom-made quadruple baby stroller, among other things--for the Jacobssons. Donations of diapers, clothes and other items for the babies are also welcome, Chabot said.

The event will be held at 8 a.m. in the parking lot of a Chevron service station at Wiley Canyon Road and Lyons Avenue in Santa Clarita.
