Fullerton 61, Cypress 58--Fullerton trailed by a point entering the final minute, but Rashaun Thomas made four free throws and Cypress missed three consecutive three-point shots in the final 12 seconds. Thomas scored 15 points for the Hornets (10-8, 1-0).

Riverside 94, Santa Ana 81--Sophomore center Don Crowden scored 25 points and had 15 rebounds for host Riverside (15-6, 1-0). Chris Mattice scored 19 points and Mark Wulfemeyer 14 for the Dons (12-6, 0-1).

Saddleback 64, Orange Coast 58--Vernon Jackson had 16 points and nine rebounds and Shemmar Frazier had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Saddleback (10-7, 1-0).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s basketball:

Cypress 76, Fullerton 72--Sharee Brown made two free throws with three seconds left to secure the victory for Cypress (8-10, 1-0). Antares Vice had 24 points, 16 rebounds, seven blocks and no turnovers for the Chargers. Brown had 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Teresa Manning scored 17 points and Kristi Jepsen had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Fullerton (9-8, 0-1).

Irvine Valley 83, Golden West 73--Golden West took a 66-64 lead on Mary Tuazon’s three-pointer with 5:50 left. But Irvine Valley went on a 12-1 run to take a 76-67 lead. Sara Leeds had 19 points to lead the Lasers (13-4, 1-0). Golden West is 6-11, 0-1.

Santa Ana 71, Riverside 48--Rochelle Anthony scored 20 points, Stephanie Patten had 19 and Fiaave Tipoti 13 for the visiting Dons (12-5, 1-0).
