Stroh, Harp Resurrected Team
Co-coaches Darryl Stroh and Tom Harp of Granada Hills High took over a football program that was 3-27 the previous three years and directed the Highlanders to a 10-0 regular-season record, including an overtime victory over Taft that clinched the Northwest Valley Conference championship.
The Highlanders finished 12-1 and advanced to the City Championship semifinals before losing to Banning.
Stroh retired from coaching after the 1993 season, with Harp leaving after the 1994 season. Both decided to return after seeing the Highlanders’ program fall on hard times. They instilled discipline and taught fundamentals. The team’s success united alumni, students, teachers and community members.
The Granada Hills staff also included Bill Lake, Jeff Galieti, Bart Hansen and John MacLauglin.
