Birmingham In New Territory
Krissy Oakes scored in the 60th minute in a City Championship quarterfinal game to give host Birmingham High a 1-0 victory over Palisades Friday afternoon.
The fourth-seeded Patriots advanced to the semifinals for the first time. They’ll meet top-seeded Chatsworth on Tuesday.
Oakes’ goal, her 34th, came on a five-yard shot.
The Patriots have outscored their opponents, 100-17.
The shutout was the eighth in a row for Birmingham (13-3-4) and goalkeeper Paula Eckstein, who made four saves.
Birmingham has won seven consecutive games.
Palisades finished 3-10.
In other quarterfinal games:
Chatsworth 7, Grant 0--Liela Pate and Jackie Fodor each scored two goals for host Chatsworth.
Pate scored the first goal, in the 30th minute, on a breakaway.
Laura Amoroso and Shannon DeVos each scored in the next 10minutes, giving Chatsworth (22-2-1) a 3-0 lead at halftime.
San Pedro 3, Granada Hills 0--Host San Pedro scored two goals in the final five minutes.
Morgan Tharp made 10 saves for Granada Hills (9-10).
CITY DIVISION
Monroe 3, Narbonne 1-- Zulema Mejicano scored twice and assisted on another goal to lift the host Vikings (15-2-1) in a quarterfinal game.
Mejicano scored in the 35th minute and in the 75th minute, when she redirected a cross into the goalmouth. Nancy Hernandez scored in the first minute for Monroe, after taking a crossing pass from Mejicano.
