Police Chief Michael J. Skogh will leave for the top job in the Gardena Police Department next month. Skogh, 54, who has been the city’s chief for five years, said he was looking forward to moving back to the South Bay area, where he previously served as a captain in Manhattan Beach. He will exchange a 24-member department for one with 70 employees.
“I’m extremely happy,” Skogh said. “I’m looking forward to another generation of challenges ahead.” His last day on the job will be March 12, and he will start in Gardena soon after.
An interim police chief probably will be named any day, City Manager Robert Dominguez said, adding: “Gardena will be getting a first-rate, professional chief.”
Skogh, who started his career with the Orange Police Department, helped make the city’s police agency more professional and oriented it toward community policing techniques, Dominguez said.
