Kapono Setting the Pace for Artesia’s Run at Title

Jason Kapono of Lakewood Artesia continued an outstanding senior season Tuesday night in the top-seeded Pioneers’ second-round Southern Section I-AA playoff game against San Gabriel.
Kapono, a 6-foot-8 swingman who was named to the McDonald’s All-American team, scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds as the defending-champion Pioneers won, 89-41, at San Gabriel.
Kapono got help from Amaury Fernandez and Jack Martinez, who had 18 and 16 points, respectively.

Corona Centennial 84, Fontana 75--Jamaal Williams scored 21 points for the Huskies in the I-AA victory over the third-seeded Steelers at Centennial.
Glendora 71, Riverside La Sierra 47--Casey Jacobsen scored 31 points as the top-seeded and defending-champion Tartans won a I-A game at Ramona.
Santa Ana Mater Dei 64, Villa Park 48--Steve Scoggin scored 17 points for the second-seeded Monarchs in a I-A victory at Villa Park.
Compton Dominguez 95, Pomona Garey 71--Keith Kincade scored 25 points and Marcus Moore had 19 points, 10 assists and 10 steals for the top-seeded Dons in a II-AA game at Garey.
Redondo Union 56, Paso Robles 51--Andrew Zahn scored 24 points for the second-seeded Sea Hawks in a II-AA victory at Paso Robles.
Inglewood 77, Lompoc 56--Brian Taylor and Marvin Isaacs each scored 17 points for the top-seeded Sentinels in a II-A quarterfinal at Morningside.
Lakewood Mayfair 69, Pasadena Muir 64-- Josh Childress had 24 points in a II-A quarterfinal victory over the Mustangs at Pasadena.
Torrance Bishop Montgomery 70, West Covina South Hills 49--The top-seeded Saints held South Hills to 17 second-half points in a III-AA game at Covina High.
