Andy Gavel, Paraclete High boys’ basketball coach, was in intensive care and listed in stable condition after being taken to Antelope Valley Hospital complaining of flu-like symptoms Tuesday afternoon.
Gavel, a diabetic, was diagnosed with high blood sugar, Paraclete Athletic Director Margaret Neill said. Late Tuesday night, Neill said Gavel’s blood sugar had lowered and he was resting comfortably.
Without Gavel, Paraclete (11-15) lost to Twentynine Palms, 77-59, in a Southern Section Division IV-AA quarterfinal at Highland High.
