Forfeits End Valencia Season
Valencia High, which finished second in the Foothill League boys’ soccer standings, has forfeited five victories and two ties because it used an academically ineligible player and will not participate in the Southern Section Division II playoffs.
The Vikings slip to 5-13-4 and 1-8-1 in league play, leaving them in last place. Their exit from playoff contention moves Saugus, the third-place finisher, into second behind first-place Hart and hands Canyon the league’s third and final section playoff berth.
Following the forfeits, Canyon and Burroughs tied for third place with 4-4-2 league records. Mike Kodama, Burroughs coach, said Saturday Canyon won a tiebreaker based on head-to-head competition with the Indians.
Jerry Stupar, Valencia’s coach, did not return calls from The Times.
