Mitchell, Strange Lead Chapman Victory

Derek Mitchell scored 18 points and Nate Strange had 16 to help Chapman, which shot 57% from the field, defeat California Christian, 94-61, in a nonconference men’s basketball game Friday at Chapman.
Todd Canavan had 14 points and 14 rebounds for Chapman (13-8).
In Big West women’s basketball:
North Texas 70, UC Irvine 67--Chelsea Mackey had 24 points and nine rebounds for visiting Irvine (8-12, 4-5).
In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball:
UCLA 3, UC Irvine 1--Adam Naeve had 27 kills and nine blocks and Brandon Taliaferro (San Clemente High) had 75 assists for the fourth-ranked Bruins (6-2, 4-1), who won 13-15, 15-12, 15-3, 15-9. Mike Rupp had 20 kills for Irvine (3-6, 2-5).
In nonconference women’s gymnastics:
CS Fullerton 190.275, UC Davis 189.775--Megan Berry had a career high in the all-around (38.75) for the host Titans (1-4).
