Sean Atkins, a former quarterback at San Fernando High, is expected to play at Cal State Northridge, Coach Ron Ponciano said.
Under Division I-AA transfer rules, Atkins, 5 feet 7 and 165 pounds, will be ineligible next season but can play in 2000. Atkins played sparingly at running back as a Cal State Sacramento freshman last year. He passed for 1,074 yards at San Fernando in 1997, his senior season.
At Northridge, Atkins will join his brother, Bryson, a Times All-Valley safety last season at Alemany who signed with the Matadors on Wednesday.
The Matadors on Friday signed John Acosta, a 6-5, 310-pound offensive tackle from Chaffey College, and D.J. Hackett, a 6-3, 170-pound receiver from San Dimas High.
George Hurley of Newbury Park High is in Hawaii to attend the Pro Bowl on Sunday, his reward for being chosen the NFL’s High School Coach of the Year.
Hurley, who has posted a record of 82-37-2 in 10 seasons, took with him his sons, Ethan and Ryan, and his longtime assistants Gary Fabricius and Doug Dagen.

Former Cal State Northridge standout Jeff Sanday shot a final-round 71 and finished fifth Friday in the Hunter Ranch Open in Paso Robles. Sanday scored 70-70-71 for a total of 211 in the 54-hole TearDrop Tour tournament.
