Rick Curtis, athletic director at the new Northwood High, was named the school’s first football coach Wednesday by principal Tony Ferruzzo.
Curtis is the first coach hired by the Irvine school and brings with him a successful background as an offensive and defensive coordinator and co-coach at Irvine.

Jeff Ehrlich, whose boys’ water polo teams at Villa Park won nearly 74% of their games (484-171) the last 24 seasons, will coach the men’s program at the Air Force Academy.
Ehrlich, 47, has coached boys’ water polo at Villa Park since 1974. Though his Spartans won only one Southern Section championship, the 1981 3-A title, they reached the playoffs 24 times and the finals five times.
A math teacher, Ehrlich will finish the school year at Villa Park and begin at Air Force July 1.
